DAY SEVEN – LETHERA
THE RUGGED WEST
Cockermouth – Lorton – Loweswater – Fangs Brow
Ennerdale Water – Ennerdale Bridge – Gosforth
Wastwater – Wasdale Head – Wasdale YHA
We coasted down the steeper far side, the lovely Lanthwaite Woods off to our left, and crossed over the River Cocker on its way from Crummock Water to Cockermouth.
Richard was still quiet, but then so was I. I pulled alongside him and we cycled together for a few minutes.
“Am I being miserable?” Richard said.
“Yes.”
“Sorry.”
We pedalled on.
He said, “I’m going to stop being miserable.”
“Generally, or for the day?”
“Probably just for the day. Still deciding.”
