DAY EIGHT – HOVERA
SEA AND SAUSAGES
Wasdale YHA – Ravenglass – Waberthwaite
Silecroft – Millom – Broughton-in-Furness
Ulpha – Eskdale Green – Boot
By a bridge over the road, a sign pointed towards Ravenglass Station. We had just missed a train, and the platforms were quiet, but it was still an atmospheric place, with the feel of an enthusiasm brought to life. I had expected the station to feel like a cross between a Thomas the Tank Engine book and Platform 9¾ at King’s Cross Station in the Harry Potter series, with pint-sized trains in red, green or black livery arriving at the platform with steam billowing from their funnels, while families with children waited cheerily by tubs of colourful flowers.
